The introduction of a deposit return scheme will be a major milestone in Scotland’s recycling journey and a significant step on the route towards a circular economy.

Deposit return schemes operate in many countries where they help tackle climate change and reduce litter. Scotland’s scheme has been designed to meet our unique needs, tackle our throwaway culture and help protect our environment for generations to come.

To help inform stakeholders that the Deposit Return Scheme is coming, why it’s important and what industry’s responsibilities are, we have produced a range of communication materials. These are aimed at producers, retailers, wholesalers and the hospitality industry. (Public-facing materials aimed at consumers will follow next year.)
